FILLERS & STRAINERS

Filters & Strainers are reliable filtration solutions designed to remove dirt, debris, and unwanted particles from liquids and gases while protecting pumps, valves, meters, and other process equipment. Available in various sizes, materials, mesh ratings, and configurations for industrial applications.

Description

Filters & Strainers

Filters & Strainers are essential process equipment designed to remove unwanted particles, suspended solids, debris, and contaminants from liquids and gases before they enter pumps, valves, meters, control instruments, and other critical equipment. They help protect downstream components, improve process reliability, and maintain the quality of the process fluid.

These products are available in different configurations, materials, filtration ratings, and connection types to suit a wide range of industrial applications. Depending on the process requirement, options can include Y-Type Strainers, Basket Strainers, Duplex Strainers, Simplex Strainers, T-Type Strainers, and inline filtration systems.

Key Features

  • Efficient removal of unwanted particles and contaminants
  • Protects pumps, valves, flow meters, and process equipment
  • Robust industrial construction
  • Available in multiple sizes and configurations
  • Different mesh and filtration ratings available
  • Stainless steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and other material options
  • Threaded, flanged, wafer, and other connection options
  • Easy inspection and cleaning
  • Replaceable filter elements or screens
  • Suitable for continuous industrial operation
  • Low maintenance requirement
  • Suitable for liquids and selected gas applications

Working Principle

Filters and Strainers operate by allowing the process fluid to pass through a filtering element, perforated screen, or mesh basket while retaining unwanted solid particles.

As the fluid enters the housing, contaminants larger than the selected filtration opening are captured by the strainer or filter element. The cleaned fluid then passes through the outlet and continues toward downstream equipment.

When the collected contaminants increase and cause a pressure drop, the filter element can be removed, cleaned, or replaced depending on the design.

Types Available

Y-Type Strainer

A compact strainer with an angled filtration chamber, commonly used in pipelines to protect pumps, valves, meters, and other equipment.

Basket Strainer

Designed with a larger basket-type filtering element, providing higher dirt-holding capacity and convenient cleaning.

Duplex Strainer

Features two filtration chambers, allowing one side to remain in operation while the other side is isolated for cleaning or maintenance.

Simplex Strainer

A single-chamber design suitable for applications where periodic shutdown for cleaning is acceptable.

T-Type Strainer

Designed for applications requiring high flow capacity and convenient access to the filtration element.

Advantages

The primary advantage of Filters & Strainers is the protection of downstream equipment from contamination and solid particles. They can significantly reduce the risk of damage, blockage, wear, and performance loss in pumps, valves, flow meters, heat exchangers, and other process equipment.

Different filtration ratings allow the equipment to be selected according to the particle size that needs to be removed. Serviceable designs also allow the filter element or screen to be cleaned and reused, reducing maintenance costs.

For critical processes, duplex strainers can provide continuous filtration while allowing one chamber to be cleaned without interrupting the process.

Installation & Maintenance

Filters and Strainers should be installed in the correct flow direction and selected according to the pipeline size, operating pressure, temperature, fluid characteristics, and required filtration level.

Regular inspection and cleaning of the filter element are recommended to prevent excessive pressure drop and maintain efficient flow. A differential pressure indicator or gauge can be used in suitable applications to monitor the condition of the filter element.

The selected body and element materials should be chemically compatible with the process medium.
